Westonka Public Schools is taking a thoughtful, phased approach to exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can support student learning, operational efficiency and innovation across the district.

Westonka Public Schools staff and retirees gathered May 8 at the Westonka Performing Arts Center for the district's annual recognition event. Emceed by Shirley Hills Primary School teacher The morning program honored staff who reached service milestones, celebrated Teachers of the Year, recognized the 2026 Ann Bremer White Hawks Award recipients, and bid farewell to retiring staff.

The Westonka Middle School band program had a big night on May 4. Each grade level band performed, as well as the new WMS Jazz Band, who performed in the Performing Arts Center lobby between concerts.

Teacher Appreciation Week is designated during the first week of May as a time to honor the individuals who lend their passion and skills to education. At Westonka, each school celebrated their special teachers and staff members in their own unique way.

Seven Westonka Middle School band students participated in the South Central Minnesota Band Directors Association Honor Band at Chanhassen High School on May 2.  The event is geared toward first and second year instrumentalists.

Westonka delivered an impressive performance at the Math Masters competition in Hutchinson on April 23, with all three teams placing in the top six overall, including a first-place finish.

Students at Westonka Middle School gathered at school on Friday night, April 17, for the Spring Fling. The annual party was open to all students and included a DJ and dance, volleyball, dodgeball, crafts, bingo, a creative photo booth, junk food snacks, and pizza. This year’s event had a sports theme, and kids enjoyed the props and wore their favorite sports apparel.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Many students in the Westonka primary schools spent extra time outside exploring nature on a summerlike day.

Westonka Community Education and the Westonka Middle School (WMS) Troupers are proud to present “Shrek, Jr. The Musical” at the Westonka Performing Arts Center April 23 through April 26. The show features 77 middle school students in the cast and crew, along with 13 high school students supporting the production.
