Westonka Middle School News

The transition to middle school is a significant event in the life of a young student. To help make this rite of passage go smoothly, Westonka Middle School offers a school where everybody truly belongs. Led by a group of the school’s seventh grade students, WEB, "Where Everybody Belongs," is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes new middle school students to WMS and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience.

As summer flies by, many families in our community are already looking ahead to the upcoming school year. To ensure every student is equipped for success, WeCAN is collecting school supplies now through August 3.

Due to major construction, all parking lots, drives, sidewalks and pedestrian paths on the Westonka High School campus are closed to the public.

We purchased all needed supplies to distribute to Westonka Middle School students and will add the cost of supplies to school fees to cover the cost. Based on feedback, this is a saving of both time and of money for parents in the fall, and we hope this helps ease the stress of back-to-school time. 

Memorial Day is more than just a day off. It’s a time for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude. Westonka students took time to honor and remember our nation’s fallen soldiers by participating in the community Memorial Day service at the Gillespie Center on May 25.

Free summer meals will be available to all children and teens under age 19 this summer at Westonka Middle School.

New data released in May by the Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford University show Westonka Public Schools continuing to outperform state and national averages in both math and reading achievement. According to the report, Westonka ranked higher than 98% of school districts nationwide in average math performance during the 2022-25 school years. The district also ranked higher than 93% of districts nationwide in average reading performance during the same period.

Westonka Public Schools is taking a thoughtful, phased approach to exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can support student learning, operational efficiency and innovation across the district.
